118 St. Stephens Green – A New Front Door for RCSI
118 St Stephen’s Green marks a new chapter for the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI), creating a new ‘front door’ to the city and opening the institution to the wider public. Designed as a flexible space for civic and public engagement, the building provides a welcoming setting for events, exhibitions and the exchange of ideas.
At the heart of the building is RCSI’s mission: “To educate, nurture and discover for the benefit of human health.” This ethos is reflected throughout the design, which brings together learning, research, healthcare and public engagement under one roof.
During Open House, visitors will be welcomed by members of the RCSI community and invited to explore the building, designed by leading Irish architecture practice Henry J. Lyons. The tour offers a glimpse into RCSI’s world, from its innovative learning environments to its state-of-the-art facilities.
The journey begins on the ground floor, where the entrance opens onto Humanarium—a café and free public exhibition space that provides a vibrant meeting point for the RCSI community and the wider public. Visitors will have the opportunity to discover the building and its facilities before concluding their tour with a visit to Humanarium’s latest exhibition, offering a chance to pause, reflect and engage with ideas around health, science and society.
